What Are the 5 Best Umbrella Strollers for Traveling?

The items I’ll introduce are ones I’ve personally tried and tested, and can be found on online retailers like Lazada.

1. Akeeva X Evenflo Travel Stroller  – Editor’s Choice

Akeeva X Evenflo Travel Stroller

Features:

  • Seat: Thick seat cushion
  • Wheels: Unlockable front wheels; brake system for rear wheels
  • Foldable: Yes

Elegant and Practical With Good Safety Features!

Akeeva’s strollers offer great convenience and come with a wide range of features, even though they’re umbrella strollers. You won’t have to worry about your baby’s safety with the Akeeva x Evenflo stroller.

It is also regarded as one of the top travel system strollers available today!

Additionally, its compact folding design and built-in handle make it highly portable, resembling a suitcase. To ensure your baby’s safety even under the sun, Akeeva has incorporated a sun shade for added protection.

Its shade also has a peek-a-boo window so you can check on your baby while they’re inside. I feel secure knowing I can always see how my baby’s doing while we’re outside the house.

This stroller is also designed to grow with your baby because it has a weight limit of 25 kg and can be used from birth. However, I recommend waiting until your baby’s 6 months old before using this.

Perfection is hard to come by, but Akeeva’s come very close with this stroller!

PROS

  • It includes a large shopping basket
  • Bright and vibrant colors
  • Easy to assemble

CONS

  • Some reviews mention scratches on the item

2. Joie Aire Twin Stroller – Premium Choice

Joie Aire Twin Stroller

Features:

  • Seat: The individual seats can be reclined
  • Wheels: Lockable front wheels with suspension; Rear wheels with linked brake
  • Foldable: Yes, it is easy to fold

Transport Your Twins in Style!

The Joie Aire is the best double umbrella stroller on this list and is perfect if you’re a new mother with newborn twins.

One of the problems you’ll encounter when shopping for twins is finding everything in pairs. The Joie Aire solves this problem by providing twice the seating at the same price as some single regular strollers!

In my opinion, the seats and hoods are some of the best things about this umbrella stroller. They can be moved separately so your kids don’t have to be reclined simultaneously if they don’t want to.

It also offers the convenience of lockable front wheels to keep it steady, which is a bonus. However, please note that it does not support rear-facing seating for children.

This umbrella stroller is only front-facing, but it’s comfortable and secure. It can also be fully reclined if your twins want to nap.

The Joie Aire is a great umbrella stroller for twins but is a little large even when folded, so check if it fits your storage before you get it!

PROS

  • Easy to push around
  • It’s lightweight even though it’s for twins
  • It fits through narrow doors

CONS

  • It has a low weight limit
  • It is relatively expensive

3. Giant Carrier Sage Stroller – Budget Choice

Giant Carrier Sage Stroller

Features:

  • Seat: Five-point seat harness
  • Wheels: Locked in; adjustable footrest
  • Foldable: Yes, Reversible handle and multi-reclining position

Affordable doesn’t mean flimsy!

Giant Carrier is a local stroller manufacturer that can keep your babies safe and secure without spending much money.

During my pregnancy, I thought I’d need to save up a lot for a stroller. However, the Giant Carrier’s Sage stroller proved me wrong. It is budget-friendly without compromising on quality and durability.

It’s also very easy to open. I could open and close it with only one hand, which is useful when carrying a travel diaper bag as well. However, that won’t be a big problem with the Sage stroller.

Because this umbrella stroller has a storage basket, you can keep your hands free while moving around. It’s also lightweight, making it ideal for travel and ensuring you won’t tire easily, which is a definite advantage.

At first, I thought the Sage stroller was a little flimsy, but after testing it out, I can say it’s much sturdier than it looks.

PROS

  • Easy to assemble
  • It has a good weight limit
  • Simple to adjust

CONS

  • Short warranty
  • Not recommended for newborns

4. BABEDUO Infant Car Seat and Latch Base

BABEDUO Infant Car Seat and Latch Base

Features:

  • Seat: Cushioning Dampening
  • Wheels: Locking front wheels
  • Foldable: Yes, multiple reclining options

A Stroller and a Car Seat at the Same Time!

This product is one of the best car seat and stroller combos because you can save you money in the long run.

BABEDUO’s stroller has a removable car seat, so you can fold up the frame and secure your baby if you’re traveling by car.

The company prioritizes your child’s safety, and I felt confident and secure while pushing my little one in this stroller. However, it’s worth noting that assembly may require some additional time and effort.

It took me a bit longer to assemble due to its car seat and stroller combo design. However,  it became intuitive and easy to use once I added the car seat.

Keep in mind that this stroller is specifically designed to be rear-facing, so it may not be the ideal choice  if your baby prefers front-facing strollers.

However, if your baby tends to nap frequently during stroller rides, I highly recommend considering this option.

It’s also important to note that this stroller is quite large and bulky due to its design to accommodate a car seat. When folded, its size may be noticeable, so make sure that you have enough space for it.

PROS

  • It is made from non-toxic materials
  • It has lots of safety features
  • Extra suspension makes traveling safer

CONS

  • Looks plain
  • It is bulky when folded

5. Maxi-Cosi Lara Compact Stroller

Maxi-Cosi Lara Compact Stroller

Features:

  • Seat: Cushioned
  • Wheels: 360° swivel wheels
  • Foldable: Yes, Flip-up footrest with SPF 50 sunshade

Light and easy to assemble!

Umbrella strollers are expected to be compact when folded, but I also think it’s a bonus if they’re also easy to assemble. Luckily, Maxi-Cosi’s Lara stroller is very easy to put together!

was able to assemble it effortlessly and without the need for any tools. It was ready to use within minutes, and I haven’t encountered any issues with it since!

In my experience, the Lara stroller is best suited for babies who can sit up independently. However, the seat is somewhat shallow even when reclined, which may cause discomfort for your baby.

However, the stroller features a convenient footrest that can be snapped upward to provide your baby with a more comfortable sleeping position.

Additionally, the wheel brakes are easy to activate, allowing you to quickly stop the stroller when you and your baby need some quiet time.

I highly recommend this stroller for its easy folding mechanism and suitability for babies who can sit up without support.

PROS

  • Easy to fold
  • Assembles quickly
  • Very light

CONS

  • The seatbelt is hard to adjust
  • The seat is slightly shallow

How Do You Fold an Umbrella Stroller?

How Do You Fold an Umbrella Stroller?

Unlike full-sized strollers, an umbrella stroller offers a more compact folding size, so it’s easier to bring around. Some models are even small enough to fit into a backpack!

But once you’re done for the day, I recommend folding up your umbrella stroller so it doesn’t take up too much space. Fortunately, it’s easy!

Many umbrella stroller manufacturers follow the same basic design, but the folding process may differ between models. To be safe, I suggest checking your manufacturer’s manual.

Here’s how to fold a stroller, more specifically, an umbrella stroller:

  1. First, check whether your umbrella stroller has a canopy or sunshade. Fold it first.
  2. If your umbrella stroller has wheel locks or brakes, engage them.
  3. Now ensure your little one is away from the stroller before folding. This is important to avoid injuries!
  4. Check the stroller’s rear wheels for a connecting bar. There should be a lever on this bar.
  5. Push the lever forward to start folding the rear wheels, then push the handles forward to start folding the stroller.
  6. Once it’s completely folded, lock it with the provided latch.
  7. And it’s finished!

What Is the Difference Between a Travel and Umbrella Stroller?

What Is the Difference Between Travel and Umbrella Stroller?

You might wonder what an umbrella stroller is and how it differs from a travel stroller. I’m here to clarify things!

From my experience, there’s no difference between a travel stroller and an umbrella stroller. They’re the same thing!

They’re called “umbrella strollers” because they usually have curved handles and are often made from waterproof fabrics, making them look like umbrellas. Furthermore, they can be folded up like an umbrella.

Travel and umbrella strollers are the same but different from regular or full-sized strollers. Regular strollers are bulkier and more expensive. However, they have more storage space.

I’ve found that regular strollers are better for longer vacations but harder to move in crowded areas. Furthermore, normal strollers don’t fold up as neatly.

There are more types of strollers to look out for other than travel and umbrella strollers, so broaden your options if you need to!

How Can You Choose the Best Umbrella Stroller for Travel?

How Can You Choose the Best Umbrella Stroller for Travel?

To make choosing an umbrella stroller easier, here are a few important factors you should consider.

When deciding, account for costs, foldability, toughness, and space. Once you’ve accounted for these things, getting a stroller for your kid will be easier.

Toughness

You’ll be folding and unfolding your umbrella stroller whenever you want to take your baby traveling, so you’ll need a durable model that won’t snap while using it.

If possible, explore additional reviews of the model you are considering.. Matibay ba siya? Remember, you’ll be using this until your baby’s a toddler, so it has to last.

Once your child has reached the toddler stage, you should consider another stroller, specifically the best toddler strollers in the market!

From firsthand experience, I recommend choosing your umbrella stroller based on your travel destination. If you are going over bumpy roads, get a stroller with shock suspension para kay baby!

However, keep in mind that additional features often come with a higher price tag when it comes to products for your little one. Balance your budget and your needs.

Space

While regular strollers commonly include cup holders and ample storage for your baby’s belongings, umbrella strollers tend to offer less space. That’s because they’re smaller and meant to be lighter.

Other umbrella strollers may not offer sufficient storage space, which may require you to carry an additional backpack. However, it’s important to avoid excessive strain your shoulders.

However, I wholeheartedly recommend finding a stroller that can hold extra supplies just in case.

Keep in mind that the size of these strollers will affect how you clean them. It is important to choose a stroller that suits your preferred size and be aware of how to properly clean it, regardless of the type.

Cost

This is very important if you’re a first-time parent or a working mother! Umbrella strollers can cost anything from ₱3,000 to over ₱15,000, depending on the model you get and where you buy it.

However, you can find steep discounts if you’re shopping on Lazada, and sellers on Carousell often resell their strollers for a cheaper price. Inspect the item in person before you buy it, if possible!

I’ve also noticed that umbrella strollers tend to be more affordable compared to full-sized strollers, primarily due to their smaller size and limited features.

Their size makes them better for younger babies and toddlers, However, I recommend moving up to a full-sized stroller to give them a more comfortable ride once your child is a little older.

Comfort

I know moms have it tough, but ultimately, we still love our kids and want the best for them. When shopping for strollers, the seats should be comfortable and cushioned.

Check the wheels and make sure they don’t make too many squeaking noises while you’re moving. There should also be a sunshade to keep your baby cool.

If you’re wondering whether your baby can sleep in a stroller, make sure the product offers a conducive and peaceful sleeping environment for your little one!

Additionally, I suggest opting for a stroller with an adjustable recline for optimal relaxation. It will undoubtedly keep your kids at ease for extended periods!

Freedom of Movement

Test how easy it is to move your stroller around with the baby inside, if possible. The perfect umbrella stroller should turn quickly but not cause discomfort to your baby while moving.

Furthermore, the front wheels should be lockable to stop your umbrella stroller from rolling away. I recommend checking the suspension, too, especially if you’re traveling on bumpy roads.

Another way of knowing how well a stroller moves is through exercising!

You may want to jog around your village to do some cardio, but you need to take care of your baby. You’d want to consider the best jogging stroller that can be used as an umbrella stroller to protect your baby from the sun’s rays!

Does your stroller have brakes? Your baby shouldn’t be able to reach them to avoid getting pinched.

Safety

Apart from convenience, we moms need to prioritize our baby’s safety. The first question to ask yourself is, “Do I truly need a stroller?” If you think you don’t need a stroller, it’s best not to make a purchase.

Regardless of the specific model you choose, it is crucial that the best umbrella strollers come equipped with a five-point harness, providing enhanced safety and security for your child, similar to those found in car seats.

This is to keep your baby safe during your journey so that you can take them around without stress. Remember also to check how stable your umbrella stroller is!

In my experience, many umbrella strollers can’t hold weight like backpacks on the back and may tip over.

For convenience in the future, try bringing a backpack full of baby supplies to check your stroller’s stability.

Foldability

“Umbrella” strollers get their name because of their curved handles and waterproof material; some are small enough to be umbrella-size when folded properly.

But what happens if you don’t have both hands to fold the stroller?

That’s why it’s essential to choose a stroller that folds neatly! Make sure it offers easy one-handed folding for effortless use.

Proper folding and assembly are essential to save space and ensure your baby’s comfort while using the stroller.

Your umbrella stroller should also be small enough to fit in the back of a car or an airplane compartment. That’s important if you’re traveling abroad with your baby.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

These are some of the most commonly asked questions regarding umbrella strollers!

Is an Umbrella Stroller Good for Travel?

Yes, umbrella strollers are great for traveling!

They are popular for their lightweight design, making them easy to maneuver. Additionally, I’ve found that all the strollers I’ve used have been user-friendly when it comes to folding them up.

Remember to fold your stroller properly whenever you’re not using it. Many strollers come with a convenient carrying strap for portability.

Why Do People Buy Umbrella Strollers?

I bought an umbrella stroller because they’re lighter and easier to maneuver, especially when I need to go to crowded areas like Manila.

Some may prefer using the best double stroller for more durability and space for their child, but having an umbrella stroller secures my child much better!

It was also handy once my baby was old enough to sit up.

How Long Can a Child Use an Umbrella Stroller?

Like all parents, I sometimes worry about expiration dates for my baby’s belongings. Worrying about an umbrella stroller’s age is no exception to that.

Luckily, umbrella strollers can still be used even with minor damage, as they don’t have an expiration date.

Still, it is important to follow the weight limits for safety, and to discontinue using it once your child exceeds the stroller’s limit.
